NEW YORK, NY (08/02/2010)(readMedia)-- On Thursday, August 5, 2010 from 6:30-8:30pm Common Cause /NY with the New York State Stimulus Alliance and others will be hosting a town hall meeting at Brooklyn Borough Hall entitled "Plugging the Budget Gap: The Recovery Act and Beyond in New York State."

Even with an economic recovery underway, many states, including New York, are still coping with record deficits which give them less opportunity and flexibility to respond to the needs of those who need assistance the most. In the face of high unemployment rates and deep cuts to our State budget, it is important that we continue to have candid discussions about the role of government in job creation and what the economic landscape for 2011 will look like, and hear from our elected leaders about efforts to close the gap and the role for the public in addressing this crisis.
