WALLA WALLA, WA (03/06/2012)(readMedia)-- Christine Kiely of Port Townsend recently presented her research at a press conference at Whitman College on Thursday, Feb. 16.
Kiely was one of fifteen students participating in a research course at Whitman College called "The State of the State for Washington Latinos." Students in this course conducted academic and community-based research in one of five different areas related to the relationship between Walla Walla Latinos and their surrounding community.
Her project, entitled "The History and Lessons of Latino under-Representation in Washington State," looked into the electoral histories of 10 of Walla Walla's surrounding counties to see whether or not minority voices are accurately represented.
Kiely is a 2008 graduate of Port Townsend High School. She is currently a senior environmental humanities major at Whitman.
