For Immediate Release: July 8, 2011

ALBANY, NY (07/08/2011)(readMedia)--

The Canalway Trail in Oneida County has re-opened between Rome and Whitestown, the New York State Canal Corporation announced.

The section of the public trail between Reber Road in Rome and Thomas Road in Whitestown was closed May 27 for repairs following washouts during heavy Spring rains. Through travelers had been re-routed over a marked detour.

The Canal Corporation appreciates the public's patience during this temporary closure.

The Erie Canalway Trail is a multi-use trail, designed to accommodate pedestrians, bicyclists and cross-country skiers. More than three-quarters of the 348-mile Erie Canalway Trail from Buffalo to Albany is now completed. For more information, please see the weblink http:/www.canals.ny.gov/canalwaytrail/.
