Portland Native Keiler Beers awarded grant for Ben Rabinowitz Student Driven Project

WALLA WALLA, WA (12/05/2012)(readMedia)-- Portland native Keiler Beers has been awarded the Ben Rabinowitxz Student Driven Project grant, which provides funding for students to develop a project promoting compassion in politics. Beers used the first half of the funding to bring speakers from three different Northwest immigration organizations to Whitman College to discuss compassionate immigration reform. He will use the other half of the grant to provide financial assistance for Whitman College students involved with "No More Deaths," a humanitarian aid organization at the U.S.-Mexico Border.

A 2010 graduate of Beaverton High School, Beers is the son of Leslie Taylor and Doug Beers of Portland.

At Whitman, Beers is a politics major, a member of the all-male a capella group "The Testostertones," a Resident Assistant and a mentor at a local Walla Walla elementary school
