Portland native assists bilingual students in Walla Walla

WALLA WALLA, WA (01/24/2013)(readMedia)-- Portland native Devyani Gupta is the founder and coordinator of a bilingual outreach program at Green Park Elementary through an internship at Whitman College. The primary focus of the organization is placing college students in first, second, and third grade classrooms to serve as teachers' aides and assist at-risk students to prevent them from falling behind academically.

Gupta is the daughter of Shantanu Gupta and Eloisa Margarita Vannerson. She is a 2011 graduate of Lincoln High School.

At Whitman, Gupta is a sophomore Psychology and Spanish double major and a member of the school's club volleyball team.
