Poughkeepsie Resident Elected President of the Student Nurses' Association of Pennsylvania

PHILADELPHIA, PA (12/06/2011)(readMedia)-- Drexel University student and Poughkeepsie resident Kayleigh Jackson was elected President of the State Board of Directors of the Student Nurses' Association of Pennsylvania (SNAP) during the annual convention held Nov. 15-19, 2011 in Lancaster, Pa.

During the convention, Jackson presided over her first board meeting on Saturday, Nov. 19, 2011 and will continue to lead the state level organization, SNAP, which consists of just over 6,000 members statewide and is part of the National Student Nurses' Association.

"An experience of this magnitude opens so many professional doors to those involved," says Jackson. "I look forward to meeting new people and creating lifelong connections along the way. One of my mentors always says, 'don't let school get in the way of your education.' This quote fits perfectly when thinking about the invaluable experience I will gain from this new endeavor and I look forward to absorbing all the knowledge I can throughout the year."

Jackson, a junior in the Bachelor's of Science Nursing co-op program in Drexel's College of Nursing and Health Professions, completed her term as Greater Philadelphia Regional Coordinator of SNAP last year before she was elected and installed into her presidency role.

"I think I knew then, while serving as regional coordinator, that I wanted to extend my time with this organization on the state level and increase my involvement," says Jackson. "I was aware of the large commitment it would take for the position of President, but with the support of my family, friends, and colleagues I knew this goal would not be unattainable."

Her goals as President include building strength within the Board of Directors in order to stay current with the business as well as working to develop plans for the future of the organization.

She also served public relations chair of the Drexel University chapter of SNAP last year and will continue to serve as a member of the local chapter. Drexel's chapter, the largest in Pennsylvania and in the National Student Nurses' Association with 845 members, was recognized with the gold chapter excellence award in the category of "chapters with 150+ members" during the national conference.
