ALBANY, NY (11/20/2007)(readMedia)-- The School Administrators Association of New York State (SAANYS), representing Riley Elementary Principal Dean Goewey of the Oswego City School District, has called for a public hearing in response to the charges placed against him by the district. The hearing is scheduled to begin Monday, November 26.
Goewey was first suspended for what SAANYS believes is a result of his union activities in the school district and his refusal to sign an unfair evaluation. The district has brought claims of reported sexual harassment against Goewey, which Goewey vehemently denies.
Goewey wishes to make the hearing an open and fair process in hopes that the public will be able to see for itself that the district is working ferociously (at taxpayers’ expense) to prosecute Goewey based on false allegations and without due process or just cause.
Due to the high profile nature of the case, SAANYS General Counsel Art Scheuermann will be litigating the case, along with Assistant Counsel Andre Dalbec. Scheuermann noted that prior to making any allegations, the district never notified Goewey of any problems or misconduct, and Goewey was blindsided by the allegations after a long and successful career with the district.
SAANYS represents over 6,800 school administrators, supervisors, and coordinators. As a professional association, SAANYS provides direction, service, and support to the membership in their efforts to improve the quality of education and leadership in New York State schools. SAANYS is affiliated with the National Association of Elementary School Principals (NAESP) and the National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP).
