ALBANY, NY (10/11/2024) (readMedia)-- The New York State Board of Regents officially recognized the 2024 New York State Principals of the Year at its October Board of Regents Meeting on October 8 in Albany, acknowledging these exceptional school leaders during National Principals Month (October of each year).
Recognized were 2024 NYS Secondary School Principal of the Year, Matthew Sloane, principal at Middleburgh Jr/Sr High School; and 2024 NYS Elementary Principal of the Year, Farid Johnson, principal at Siwanoy Elementary School in the Pelham Union Free School District.
Regent Chancellor Lester Young, Jr. addressed the winners during the recognition with these comments, "The reality is that if you are a principal of a school you're always thinking about your school and your students ... we want you to know as a board that we sincerely appreciate what you do on behalf of New York State students. Please know that our young people, the people you serve, are better for having you in their lives."
October, being National Principals Month, is the perfect time to acknowledge New York's principals of the year, and all school administrators who have demonstrated an exceptional commitment to students, parents, and the community, and to recognize the invaluable role of the school principal in the success of any school.
