27th Finance Detachment will train at Fort Hood, Texas before heading to Afghanistan

WHITESTONE, NY (06/27/2019) (readMedia)-- Twenty-five New York Army National Guard Soldiers from New York City, assigned to the 27th Finance Detachment, have gone on federal active duty as they prepare to deploy to Afghanistan.

The Soldiers, based at the Whitestone Army in Queens, will be conducting post-mobilization training at Fort Hood, Texas before deploying to Afghanistan.

They will train at Fort Hood for approximately a month and are expected to be in Afghanistan for nine to 10 months. They are expected to return in the spring of 2020.

A finance detachment helps Soldiers resolve military pay issues, disburses funds to pay contractors or to finance civic aid projects, and maintains financial information for Army units in their area.

The detachment deployed to Kuwait in 2008.

In 2013 the unit deployed to Afghanistan to assist in Operation Enduring Freedom.
