New York Sire Stakes Races offer Affordable Family Fun Close to Home

As the "Cradle of the Trotter," Goshen is the perfect place to celebrate the birth of our nation with one of America's oldest sports, harness racing. And there's no better place to watch the races than at The Historic Track, America's oldest track, where racing first took place in 1838.
Race fans of all ages and those attending the "Great American Weekend" festivities in Goshen, NY are encouraged to visit the Historic Track for these exhilarating races. Entry to the track is just $5 and refreshments and food are available for a fee.
The New York Sire Stakes (NYSS) races kick off on July 5th at 1P.M. with three-year-old colt and filly pacers highlighting the Saturday racing program at Historic Track in Goshen, N.Y.
The celebration and excitement continues on Sunday, July 6th when three-year-old filly and colt trotters heat up the track with more live NYSS action. Post time is 1PM.

Inaugurated in 1965, the New York Sire Stakes (NYSS) the first program of its kind in North America and later became the model for many state-bred racing programs. The landmark legislation, known as the Lavern Law, sought to spur the standardbred breeding industry through the creation of the Agriculture & New York State Horse Breeding Development Fund; the public benefit corporation that administers the NYSS racing program and promotes standardbred breeding. Today the NYSS offers $15 million in purses, holding races at all seven of New York State's harness tracks and at 22 county fairs, providing unmatched racing opportunities for the many horsemen and race fans in New York State.
