CANTON, MO (03/23/2012)(readMedia)-- Pittsfield, Ill., native Rachel Johnson recently accepted a scholarship offer from Culver-Stockton College in Canton, Mo. Johnson is the recipient of the Pillars for Excellence Scholarship, a full-tuition scholarship.
During a luncheon held March 10, Johnson and other scholarship recipients were presented with medallions in recognition of their achievement.
Each year, students who meet outstanding academic criteria are invited to take part in Culver-Stockton College's annual Pillars for Excellence Scholarship competition. The Pillars Scholarship and Presidential Scholarship are awarded based on student performance during the competition.
The Pillars for Excellence Scholarship Competition is held annually and is open to first-time entering freshmen who meet two of the following requirements: a grade point average of 3.75 or higher on a 4.0 scale, a minimum ACT score of 27 or are in the top 10 percent of their graduation class. The Pillars for Excellence Scholarship is a full-tuition merit award, which may be renewed for four years. The estimated value for four years is $89,000. Those students invited to compete for but are not recipients of the Pillars for Excellence Scholarship are automatically eligible to receive a
Presidential Scholarship, which may be renewed for four years. The estimated four-year value of the Presidential Scholarship is $44,000.
