SENATOBIA, MS (07/30/2018) The Northwest Ranger Bluegrass Festival committee is offering two volunteer orientation sessions for those who plan to help at the upcoming Oct. 13 festival.
According to volunteer and activities coordinator Angie Stuart, volunteers are strongly encouraged to attend one of the two sessions being offered. The sessions will be held at the festival site, the Northwest Farm on Tuesday, Aug. 28, 5:30- 6:30 p.m. or Wednesday, Aug. 29, noon- 1 p.m.
Stuart stated that each volunteer session will include a tour of the grounds and festival layout. Each volunteer area will be explained to give each participant an idea what fits best for them. Stuart said that anyone volunteering for at least one three-hour shift will receive an event T-shirt, a ticket into the arena and a meal voucher. A volunteer information sheet is available and needs to be returned to Stuart no later than Aug. 31 she said.
"The Ranger Bluegrass Festival has several areas and activities planned so we are looking for approx. 100 volunteers throughout the day to ensure our musicians, festival goers, and out-of-town guests are made to feel welcome in Senatobia. There is an opportunity for anyone who likes to volunteer or just be a part of the larger community. No special talents are needed. We just want you to be friendly and willing to work for a great cause," Stuart said. She added that this would be a great opportunity for church or civic groups to volunteer as well.
The festival, which is presented by Gateway Tire, will be held at the Northwest Farm on Saturday, Oct. 13 from 9 a.m.- 9 p.m. The event is a one-day music festival featuring nationally-recognized, award-winning bluegrass bands. The primary goal of this event is to raise funds for scholarships to benefit Northwest students, while sharing an appreciation of bluegrass music and culture.
Tickets are available at Eventbrite.com. Advance tickets are $12 for adults, $8 for children/students (ages 6-17) and $30 for a family pass. Festival activities include six performing bands and musicians on the main stage, a bluegrass competition, bluegrass jamming and parking lot picking, a free children's activity area, food trucks, demonstrations and more.
Slated to appear at the festival are Mike Compton and Joe Newberry, Missy Raines and the New Hip, Barefoot Movement, Xaris Waltman, Alice Hasen and Andy Ratliff.
