Raymond Ejikemeuwa Earns University Honors, Advances Research and Represents Georgia State Nationally and Internationally

Raymond Ejikemeuwa, a fourth-year Ph.D. student in world history in Georgia State University's Department of History, has reached a series of academic, leadership and service milestones in 2026, including Georgia State's Royal Flame Leadership Award April 13 and the George M. Sparks Award April 21. In July, Ejikemeuwa participated in a Mellon-supported Doctoral Summer Residency at The Ohio State University. Ejikemeuwa's international engagement has included participation in the United Nations Economic and Social Council Youth Forum, where Ejikemeuwa was invited as a youth delegate and served as a speaker during the session "Youth Mental Health and Wellbeing as a Foundation for Sustainable Development." Ejikemeuwa also participated as an in-person delegate at the World Bank Group Youth Summit in Washington, D.C.

June 30, DeKalb County Chief Executive Officer Lorraine Cochran-Johnson issued a proclamation recognizing and honoring Ejikemeuwa for contributions and dedication to the betterment of the community. At Georgia State, Ejikemeuwa serves as president of the Association of Historians at Georgia State University and has developed professional development and student engagement initiatives for fellow history students. Ejikemeuwa is also completing a graduate certificate in Geographic Information Systems through the Department of Geosciences.

Ejikemeuwa's doctoral research examines how post-Biafran Igbo migrants in the United States reconstructed community and preserved cultural heritage following the Nigeria-Biafra War, using material culture, oral histories and institutional archives to study migration, memory and identity.
