Raymond Owen Receives Final Convocation Award at Hampden-Sydney College

HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, VA (05/10/2013)(readMedia)-- At Final Convocation on April 25, Hampden-Sydney College junior Raymond R. Owen, Jr. received the Outstanding First-Year Journalist Award, presented by Mr. Andrew Stoddard '14, Editor-in-Chief of the student newspaper, The Hampden-Sydney Tiger. Presented by the student newspaper, this award recognizes the best in newspaper journalism by a first-year member of the staff.

Raymond joined the staff of the student newspaper this year. He is a member of the Future Educators Club, the Outsiders Club, the Society for Southern Heritage, the Society of 1791 leadership program, and the honor society Eta Sigma Phi (classics). An English major, Raymond graduated from James River High School and is the son of Raymond R. Owen, Sr. of Natural Bridge.

A private college for men, Hampden-Sydney is ranked in the top tier of liberal arts colleges by U.S. News & World Report. The College is known for its liberal arts curriculum, the Honor Code which stresses individual and collective responsibility, and a focus on the education of young men.
