POTSDAM, NY (06/27/2012)(readMedia)-- Community Performance Series is proud to offer the Rebecca Kelly Ballet dance camp and residency this summer at SUNY Potsdam. In its tenth summer residency in Potsdam, the dance camp will take place from Monday, July 9, to Friday, July 13.
The camp will culminate in an onstage performance on Friday, July 13 at 7 p.m. in the Dunn Dance Theatre, featuring the Rebecca Kelly ONSTAGE dancers and camp participants.
The RKB dance camp offers programs and activities for dancers from age 2 to adult. Programs include weeklong intensives, daily technique classes and ONSTAGE camps that offer students the opportunity to train and perform with a professional company. Additionally, Kids Co-Motion introduces the youngest members of the community to dance, and offers parent-child interactions.
The ONSTAGE full-day intern program is designed for the mature student over 12 years old with a serious interest in dance (either modern or ballet). The ONSTAGE half-day program is for 6- to 14-year-olds. It explores movement and develops dance techniques while preparing students for the culminating performance.
Kids Co-Motion is a unique series of creative movement classes involving the youngest members of the community. Kids Co-Motion I is designed for 2- to 4-year-olds to attend with an adult. Kids Co-Motion II is for 4- to 6-year-olds, without adult accompaniment. In both sessions, movement vocabulary is taught and a delightful range of music is introduced. Participants in Kids Co-Motion II will also participate in the Friday evening performance.
Daily technique classes are offered each afternoon to the advanced student and adult dancers looking for an intensive technique refresher.
The eight-member RKB ensemble has performed in major New York City theaters and toured and taught throughout the U.S. and Europe since 1980. RKB features contemporary classical dancers and ballets performed on pointe, with Kelly's characteristic undulating torsos, coils and spirals, curving arms and surprising off-center balances. Its stage productions are refreshingly varied, accessible and often feature original scores.
Dividing time between New York City and the Adirondacks, the Rebecca Kelly Ballet has been bringing dance to the North Country for 24 years to communities including Watertown, Potsdam, Lake Placid, Saranac Lake, Essex, Plattsburgh, Ticonderoga, Tupper Lake and North Creek. Since 1987, the company has developed and previewed new ballets at the Lake Placid Center for the Arts.
Registration prices range from $240 for the ONSTAGE full-day intern program to $25 per daily technique class. Spots are still available, but on a limited basis; please contact the CPS Box Office for more information on the availability of programs.
