ST. MARY'S CITY, MD (01/30/2013)(readMedia)-- Rebecca Thayer, a resident of Cumberland, Md., and student at St. Mary's College of Maryland, has been awarded a Gilman Scholarship to study abroad in China for the 2013 spring semester.
"I am really excited for the opportunity to go to China," says Thayer of her award. "I'm grateful that the Gilman Scholarship Program could help make my semester abroad possible by selecting me for this scholarship."
The Gilman Scholarship Program offers financial scholarships to U.S. undergraduate students studying abroad. The program aims to support students who might not otherwise study abroad due to financial constraints. Award recipients are chosen by a competitive selection process overseen by the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs at the U.S. Department of State and the Institute of International Education.
