Regional Culinary Students Receive 4th place Honors at National Competition

What: Capital Region culinary students returning from successful Nationals competition deplaning in uniform.

Emotions and excitement run high as a team of five culinary students from a Saratoga County high school return to Albany Airport tonight at 6:15 p.m. fresh off a top showing in the National ProStart Management Competition in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Students from the Southern Adirondack Educational Center received 4th place honors yesterday. Led by instructor Chef Charles Jones, CEC, CCE, the students competed in a rigorous question and answer session which showcased their knowledge of the foodservice industry. This National competition gives students who are pursuing a career in the foodservice industry, the opportunity to compete for thousands in scholarship dollars. The team was invited to Charlotte after placing first in the New York State Competition held in Buffalo this past February.

Participating students included: Jamie Norton, Jessica Ilsey, Tim Mills, Todd Chase and Travis Havens. The students will be arriving back home in full uniform at the Albany Airport tonight Monday, April 23, at 6:15 p.m. by US Air.

ProStart is a national school-to-work program operated by the New York State Restaurant Association Educational Foundation in Albany. This unique program is a curriculum of high school restaurant and foodservice courses linked with mentored worksite experiences.
