Late Start Session Begins Monday, Sept. 17

BATAVIA, NY (09/04/2018) There are still opportunities to enroll in fall classes at Genesee Community College! The late-start, 12-week session begins Monday, September 17, 2018 and courses are offered at most of GCC's seven campus locations, as well as online.

Several introductory courses are available to help students of all ages explore various career opportunities and industries. Intro to Nanotechnology (NST100) is one of the more unique, new courses available. It is being offered at GCC's Batavia Campus Center on Wednesdays from 12:20 to 2:20 p.m. and begins Wednesday, September 19, 2018 under Dr. Karen Huffman. This 12-week course is perfect for anyone interested in understanding the concept of size and scale in relation to nanoscience. (The course requires a science prerequisite.) Intro to Food Processing (FPT101) covers the basic principles of food science such as chemical, physical and microbiological properties, and how technology is used to create a safe, abundant and nutritious supply of food. The course is offered online and is taught by instructor Greg Sharpe. There are also introductory level courses in Education, Chemistry, Meteorology and Sociology.

Another interesting course is Thriller Films (CIN205) taught at the Medina Campus Center by instructor Matthew Pettit on Fridays from 12 - 3:40 p.m. The class will trace and analyze the history of early film-noir to today's cautionary thrillers and the cultural fascination of the film genre.

"Late start sessions are another example of GCC's mission of making college readily accessible to as wide a body of students as possible," Dr. Shelitha Williams, GCC's vice president for Student and Enrollment Services said. "We understand that adult students have many priorities. Getting their younger children off to their school year makes a shorter term that starts in mid-September or even mid-October session truly a blessing."
