ELMIRA, NY (12/20/2018) President Charles Lindsay, today, announced that Renee Carlineo will become the third Director of Athletics in Elmira College's storied history, effective January 7, 2019.

"I'm pleased to share that, following a national search, Renee Carlineo will join Elmira College as its new athletics director," Lindsay said. "Renee brings a wealth of knowledge, experience, and passion that will enable us to continue building upon the success of our distinctive athletics program."

"I am honored for this opportunity to lead Elmira College Athletics and incredibly excited to join the team of talented and passionate coaches, staff, and student-athletes," Carlineo said. "The dedication, tradition, and love for the Soaring Eagles that they exhibited during the interview process made it easy to know that Elmira is the right place to be."

Carlineo's appointment is the result of a national search, which began following the announcement that Vice President of Athletics, Pat Thompson, would retire in December, following a 43-year career as a staff member, coach, and administrator.

"I am humbled to follow in the footsteps of Pat Thompson," Carlineo said. "Growing up and going to school locally, she has been an inspiration to me as I followed Elmira College Athletics and then chose to pursue a career in college athletics."

A native of Corning, New York, Carlineo earned two degrees during from neighboring Ithaca College during her academic career: a Bachelor of Science in Sport Psychology with minors in Exercise Physiology and Coaching, as well as a Master of Science in Sport & Exercise Science with a concentration in Performance Psychology. She is also in the process of obtaining a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the Rochester Institute of Technology.

Carlineo's career in collegiate athletics dates back to her time as a graduate assistant lacrosse coach with the Ithaca Bombers, the first of four stops during her professional career.

From Ithaca, she went on to Buffalo State where she served in several roles from 2007-12, including Head Strength and Conditioning Coach, Assistant Women's Lacrosse Coach and Event Manager. Those five crucial years helped her secure a position at RIT as the Assistant Director of Athletics in 2012, before elevating to the Associate Director of Athletics in 2015.

During her time with the Tigers of RIT, Carlineo was responsible for the scheduling, event management, transportation, travel budgets and daily operations for the institution's 21 NCAA Division III and two NCAA Division I programs. Upon her promotion in 2015, she took on additional responsibilities of overseeing student-athlete conduct, supervising professional staff and assisting in NCAA compliance.

Carlineo departed RIT in 2015 and expanded her professional skill set by accepting the Associate Director position in the Office of Alumni Engagement at Lehigh University, located in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. During her tenure, she was responsible for guiding the national engagement plan during the largest campaign in Lehigh history.

Carlineo then returned to her alma mater at Ithaca as the Leadership Giving Officer before being promoted to the Director of Family Giving within the office of College Relations and Advancement. As a major gift officer, she successfully closed major gifts that established the first endowment for a women's athletic program, as well as transformational gifts from alumni and parents to support Ithaca's endowment, annual fund, financial aid and intercollegiate athletics.

"I am extremely grateful and would like to extend my appreciation to President Charles Lindsay, Vice President Chris Coons, and the entire search team for the time and care they put into this process," added Carlineo. "I look forward to arriving in the new year and continuing to build on the successes and rich history of the Soaring Eagles, while leading the program into the next chapter of Elmira College Athletics."
