Reps Goldman, Nadler, + Albany Lawmakers: Make Corporate Climate Polluters Pay - Not New Yorkers!

NYers had to fork over $800M+ so far in 2023 for climate change damages and resiliency, but $3B/year Climate Change Superfund Act would put record profit-earning Big Oil on the hook instead

NEW YORK, NY (05/25/2023) (readMedia)-- At South Street Seaport – which is at risk of flooding from sea level rise without $50 billion+ in resiliency infrastructure – Congressman Goldman will join with NYS legislators and advocates to call on Albany leadership to make corporate polluters pay. As the top Big Oil companies continue to drive the climate catastrophe (which they knew they were causing as early as the 1970s), they're on track for a second consecutive record profit-earning year. Meanwhile, New Yorkers have already been asked to pay more than $800 Million so far this year for projects related to climate damages and resilience. In addition, the US Army Corps of Engineers has estimated that it will cost $52 billion alone to protect NY Harbor. The Climate Change Superfund Act (S.2129A Krueger/A.3351A Dinowitz) would put big oil companies, not taxpayers, on the hook for the climate change bill.
