LOS ANGELES, CA (11/16/2007)(readMedia)-- The results of the 3rd Annual American Red Cross West Coast Blood Battle are in, and the University of Michigan beat Ohio State University with fans’ votes totaling 526 to 477.
According to Cliff Numark, Director of Donor Recruitment for the American Red Cross Southern California Blood Services Region, “I want to thank everyone for making the 3rd Annual West Coast Blood Battle a success and helping the Red Cross ensure our blood supply levels remain adequate. And, although Michigan beat Ohio State with the most votes from our donors, the real winners are the patients in the more than 150 hospitals we serve who will benefit from the blood and blood products collected as a result of this blood drive.”
The American Red Cross Blood Services of Southern California, with the support of members of the University of Michigan and Ohio State University alumni groups, hosted the annual collegiate rivalry by offering people who donated blood at any American Red Cross Blood Services location in Southern California between October 15 through November 15 the opportunity to cast their vote for their favorite team.
“This good-natured competition gives the University of Michigan and Ohio State University football fans a chance to root for their favorite home team by donating blood; it’s a great way to show team spirit while helping a great number of people,” explains Numark. “We wish both teams luck in Saturday’s rivalry on the football field.”
