ALBANY, NY (04/12/2010)(readMedia)-- The Retail Council of New York State has promoted Melissa Googas to assistant director of government relations.
In her new post, Ms. Googas will help manage the Council's government relations program and work with state lawmakers and staff on the wide variety of issues that affect Council members. The number of legislative issues Ms. Googas covers has expanded with each year of her employment and has included topics such as product stewardship, environmental policy and organized retail crime.
The Retail Council hired Ms. Googas as government relations associate in 2005. Prior to joining the Council, she was an intern with the Commission on Independent Colleges and Universities where she researched current laws and proposed legislation, as well as various grants and fundraising opportunities.
Ms. Googas holds a bachelor's degree in political science from the State University of New York at Plattsburgh and a master's in business administration from the College of St. Rose. She resides in Albany, N.Y.
