GENESEO, NY (01/28/2014)(readMedia)-- Richard Canarvis from Livonia, N.Y. (14487), a locksmith in SUNY Geneseo's facilities services department, has received the college's Gloria and Van Quaal Outstanding Quality Service Award for 2013. The 27-year employee of the college received the honor during the Division of Administration and Finance's recent recognition ceremony.

The annual award recognizes an individual in the Division of Administration and Finance who has had a consistently high level of performance during his or her career, a recognizable and meaningful impact at the college, and who serves as a role model for others.

"Rick always has a smile on his face," said Jim Milroy, vice president for administration and finance at Geneseo. "His good nature and positive attitude combined with the stellar service he provides on campus made him an excellent choice for this award."

The selection committee chose Canarvis from six nominations this year. He received a certificate and a $1,000 check from the Geneseo Foundation.

The college established the award in 1997 through an endowment from the Geneseo Foundation in honor of the Quaals' many years of devoted service to the college and Geneseo community. Van Quaal was vice president emeritus of business affairs and finance before his death in 2005 at age 80.
