Richard Hershey was selected as Central Penn College's student of the month.

SUMMERDALE, PA (01/18/2012)(readMedia)-- Congratulations to Richard G. Hershey for his selection as the Student of the Month for December 2011. Hershey was nominated for the honor by Dr. Krista Wolfe, who is also the professor for one of the many courses he enjoys, kinesiology. Hershey is currently a certified nurse's assistant and works in Lititz, Pa. He takes pleasure in applying the information he learns in his major in physical therapist assistant to his job with the elderly.

"Interacting with patients is very important; I like to teach them the proper exercise that I learn in class," Hershey expresses. "At the end of the day, I feel good because I am doing what I love, which is helping others."

The Lancaster native is no stranger to nominations. Hershey was nominated for the perseverance award in November by his classmates. He appreciates the support of his teachers and colleagues at Central Penn, because the PTA program is certainly not a walk in the park.

"It is important for me to have a good support system, including my parents because the motivation is a necessity with a program such as this," he stresses.

Throughout his time here, Hershey has developed an appreciation for the human body and the way in which it functions. Hershey's favorite courses thus far are anatomy and physiology. He began his educational journey in January and intends on graduating this coming spring. He is dedicated to finishing his career at Central Penn and getting a job in his chosen field. In the future, Hershey looks forward to being a full-time physical therapist assistant.

When he is not studying, aiding the elderly, or being nominated for awards, Hershey can be found watching anything related to the Eagles. He admits that whatever channel his much loved team is on, is the channel that he will watch. Hershey recognizes the Eagles for their greatness, and his College and his peers recognize him for his skills and academic achievements.
