HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, VA (04/23/2013)(readMedia)-- On Friday, April 19, Hampden-Sydney College senior Richard Michael Pantele received the Harvey B. Morgan Award recognizing a graduating senior of integrity and excellence of character, who has successfully completed the requirements of the Public Service Program and who demonstrates an interest in government service. This award was established in 2000 by Mary Helen Morgan to pay tribute to her husband and his life of public service.
The Public Service Program, developed by the Wilson Center for Leadership in the Public Interest, includes a two-year concentration of classes, a research project, and an internship.
A Madison Scholar, Richard served as a member of the Student Court, as Senior Class Campaign Chairman, and as a Resident Advisor. He was President of the social fraternity Chi Phi, Vice-President of the Orthodox Christian Fellowship, and Secretary of the honorary society Pi Sigma Alpha (political science). Richard is a member of the honor society Omicron Delta Kappa (leadership), the Society of '91 (leadership program) and the Garnet & Grey Society (admissions tour guide). A government major, Richard is a graduate of Mills E. Godwin High School and is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Michael Pantele of Richmond.
