LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ (05/26/2011)(readMedia)-- Nicole Singer of Hillsborough, N.J., a junior Secondary Education and English dual major, was recently named as one of the five student recipients of Rider University's Undergraduate Research Scholars Award (URSA).

Each year, the URSA Committee presents $5,000 research scholarships to Rider students in the colleges of Business Administration; Liberal Arts, Education, and Sciences; Continuing Studies and the Westminster College of the Arts.

Under the advisement of Dr. Carol Brown, professor of Teacher Education, Singer will spend the 2011-12 academic year working on The Impact of Leadership Training on Pre-service Teachers: A One Year Study of Teacher Leadership. Hypothesizing that leadership training is critical for pre-service teachers, Singer seeks to develop a leadership training module for the undergraduate student teaching seminar at Rider University for Fall 2011. The results of a needs assessment of RU School of Education graduates, Education professors, and school principals, will guide the development of the leadership module, and could directly impact the curriculum in RU's School of Education.
