Riverside Native Chris Lopez named SCIAC Athlete of the Week at Whittier College

WHITTER, CA (09/28/2011)(readMedia)-- Whittier College sophomore quarterback Chris Lopez was honored this morning as the SCIAC Male Athlete of the Week in the third week of voting.

Lopez who comes from Riverside, Calif. and graduated from Notre Dame High School helped lead the Purple and Gold to a 66-48 win over Puget Sound and their first home win since 2008.

Behind his strong dual performance where he was 28-39 passing for 456 yards and four touchdowns, while also rushing for 63 yards and a touchdown, he was the obvious favorite to win the award.

Lopez looks to lead a Poet squad against the Tigers of Occidental College in the "Battle for the Shoes," in the friendly confines of Memorial Stadium Saturday, October 1 beginning at 7:00pm.
