Robert Nelsen Named MSGA Director of the Year

MANKATO, MN (01/14/2010)(readMedia)-- Robert Nelsen, a soybean producer from Westbrook, Minn. and longtime Minnesota Soybean Growers Association (MSGA) director, was named one of the MSGA Directors of the Year by President Bill Zurn at the MN Soybean Ag Expo Awards Luncheon Monday.

"We have an extraordinary board of directors and every year it's difficult to choose someone to receive this award," Zurn says. "Bob has shown an outstanding commitment to our organization through his recruiting activities for many years now. Without a solid membership base, MSGA would not be able to continue advocating for farm-friendly legislation in St. Paul and Washington DC."

Nelsen has consistently recruited high numbers of MSGA members since joining the board in 2001. In 2009 he brought in 78 memberships, which also earned him the honor of being the top national recruiter for the American Soybean Association (ASA.) When compared to the efforts of his fellow MSGA board members, Nelsen was responsible for 31 percent of the recruited memberships.

Now retired, Nelsen remains dedicated to the family farm operation by helping his daughter, son-in-law and grandchildren grow a variety of crops in Murray County. He and his wife Sally also raise Highland Cattle as a hobby.

The Minnesota Soybean Growers Association is a non-profit, farmer-controlled membership organization established in 1962. Its goal is to assure profitable soybean farming by monitoring government policies and supporting research and market development activities.
