Rochelle Mendonca, PhD Named Assistant Professor of Occupational Therapy at University of the Sciences

PHILADELPHIA, PA (10/22/2010)(readMedia)-- Rochelle Mendonca, PhD was recently named assistant professor of occupational therapy in the Department of Occupational Therapy at University of the Sciences' Samson College of Health Sciences.

Upon receiving her bachelor degree from Maharashtra University of Health Sciences in Maharashtra, India, Dr. Mendonca spent a year practicing occupational therapy within a research facility for the mentally challenged and within the educational system. In 2004, Mendonca moved to Milwaukee to pursue her masters and doctorate at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. During this time, she worked as a research fellow at R2D2 (Research Rehabilitation Design & Disability) at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. The R2D2 Center performs interdisciplinary basic research investigations, applied research and development, and innovative instruction related to technology and disability. Additionally, Mendonca spent time as a senior lecturer in the Department of Occupational Therapy at the University and acted as Coordinator for the ATAD (Assistive Technology and Accessible Design) Certificate.

Dr. Mendonca brings to USciences a wealth of experience in professional practice and a unique expertise in rehabilitation technology. Dr. Mendonca joins USciences at an exciting time as the Department of Occupational Therapy has been given provisional approval by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania to offer a program leading to the doctor of occupational therapy (DrOT) degree. The transition of the master's of occupational therapy at USciences to the DrOT was also granted "developing program status" by the Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education (ACOTE).
