Roundabout Theatre Company, New42, Electeds & Students Rally for Guaranteed Arts Funding in Final City Budget

New York City Arts in Education Roundtable joins with the Roundabout Theatre Company, New42, Broadway Actor and Director, and CM Erik Bottcher push for $100 per student to improve mental health and wellbeing

NEW YORK, NY (06/06/2022) (readMedia)-- On Tuesday, as the Adams Administration and City Council negotiate the final City budget, the New York City Arts in Education Roundtable will join with the Roundabout Theatre Company, New42, James Jackson, Jr, Charles Randolph-Wright, Council Member Erik Bottcher, and students to call on the City to guarantee $100 per student for arts education. The City Council included this guarantee in their budget response.

Before the pandemic, a majority of principals noted that funding for the arts was inadequate. And now, the pandemic has only exacerbated this problem, making the need for guaranteed arts education to help students equitably recover and thrive socially, emotionally, and academically even more critical. Research shows that arts education improves student performance, mental health and the overall chances of success later in life.
