WALLA WALLA, WA (04/22/2013)(readMedia)-- Russell Sperberg of Manhattan Beach, Calif., will be performing in the production of Floyd Collins with Whitman College's department of theatre from Walla Walla, Wash.

Floyd Collins, based on true events, is a spellbinding musical that tells the story of an American dreamer. While exploring a Kentucky cave in 1925, Collins became trapped. His story and the efforts to save him become one of the most sensational news stories of the century. The play is a roller coaster ride of emotions, portraying both a family in crisis and an expose on media exploitation.

The showings will take place from May 2-18, and are being produced by over 30 of Whitman College's students and staff members. Sperberg will be playing the role of Homer Collins.

Sperberg is the son of Fritz Sperberg and Radha Delamarter of Manhattan Beach, Calif. He is a 2010 graduate of Mira Costa High School.

At Whitman, Sperberg is a 2014 theatre major.
