CANTON, NY (06/08/2012)(readMedia)-- Ruth Carling Budlong, of Windsor, was honored by her alma mater, St. Lawrence University, with an Alumni Citation presented in a ceremony during Reunion Weekend on campus in Canton, New York.

Budlong is a 1959 graduate of St. Lawrence. Alumni Citations awarded to individuals for exemplary professional accomplishment or community volunteer activities.

Co-Founder and a faculty member of Charter Oak State College, Budlong is also a member of the Connecticut AAUW Legislative Committee, helping to formulate and lobby for legislation that established an external college undergraduate degree program - in essence a college without walls. After serving as a volunteer educational counselor, she joined the administrative staff of the college, now chartered by the State of Connecticut and known as "Charter Oak State College." Through her vision, dedication and leadership, Charter Oak State College has grown into an enduring institution of higher education, giving thousands of adults the opportunity to earn an undergraduate degree that would not have been possible otherwise to attain.
