SAANYS Awards Scholarships to Local High School Students

ALBANY, NY (06/01/2009)(readMedia)-- Dr. Roberto Calderin, Region 5 board member of the School Administrators Association of New York State (SAANYS), proudly announced the names of the recipients of the scholarship awards for Region 5. Region 5 includes Orange, Sullivan, Rockland, and Ulster counties. Dr. Calderin stated that the awards are provided to the children of active or retired SAANYS members as a benefit of membership. The students are graduating high school seniors with demonstrated academic and leadership skills who have received their acceptance letter from an accredited post-secondary institution of higher learning. The candidates complete an application, provide evidence of academic ability and leadership, and submit an essay to identify writing skills describing someone who has had the greatest influence on their development to become the person they are today.This year, SAANYS' Region 5 raised the total award amount from $500.00 to $1,000.00. The award winners are:

1. Ben Weiss from Newburgh Free Academy; accepted to the University of Texas.

2. Leandra Tejedor from Monroe Woodbury High School; accepted into Ramapo College.

3. Patrick T. Rossi from Washingtonville High School; accepted into Springfield College.
