SBDC Women's Business Bootcamp Focuses on Management, Leadership and Delegation

CANTON, NY (10/05/2018) The SUNY Canton Small Business Development Center (SBDC) will offer leadership solutions and managerial strategies for area entrepreneurs at their Women's Business Bootcamp.

"If you're a business owner, you have likely struggled with finding the help you need to keep your business running smoothly," said SBDC Director Dale A. Rice. "Whether you have employees, work with family members or enlist interns, honing your leadership skills can help assure that you're getting the best value from your work and from those who work with you."

The Bootcamp will be held from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 22, at the BOCES Education Services Center, 40 West Main St., Canton. Abrahm DiMarco, of DiMarco Consulting Group, will be the keynote speaker presenting "Balancing Management and Leadership: How to Delegate Effectively."

"Due to intense competition for the best workers, small business owners often have to grow their own employees," DiMarco explained. "Although these owners have excellent management and production skills, they now find themselves in leadership situations for which they are not prepared."

To help with that struggle, DiMarco will explore the difference between leadership and management and why entrepreneurs have to find a balance. Attendees will be able to practice techniques for developing employees by giving intent and delegating responsibility.

The Women's Business Bootcamp Luncheon is held semi-annually by the SUNY Canton SBDC. The event features a speed networking session where participants make one-on-one connections and a Mini Marketplace where attendees showcase and sell their products or services. The luncheon is sponsored by OneGroup and Community Bank in cooperation with SBDC resource partners SUNY Canton and the U.S. Small Business Administration. The SBDC is funded in part through a cooperative agreement with the U.S. SBA, administered by the State University of New York. SBDC programs are nondiscriminatory and available to individuals with disabilities.

Cost is $35 per person and pre-registration is required. To register, contact the SUNY Canton SBDC at (315) 386-7312 or sbdc@canton.edu.
