SPAC Announces 2009 Extended Season Lineup

Grammy Winner Arturo O'farrill & the Afro Latin Jazz Orchestra, Boys & Girls Choir of Harlem Alumni Ensemble and Jazz Vocalist Rachael Price to Perform at Spa Little Theatre, May 23, 29 and 30

SARATOGA SPRINGS, NY (02/11/2009)(readMedia)-- Saratoga Performing Arts Center announced that Arturo O'Farrill & The Afro Latin Jazz Orchestra - winners of Sunday night's Grammy Award for 'Best Latin Jazz Album' - are among the featured artists of the 2009 Extended Season. Other artists include the world-renowned Boys & Girls Choir of Harlem Alumni Ensemble and critically-acclaimed jazz vocalist Rachael Price. Performances are scheduled for May 23, 29 and 30 in SPAC's Little Theatre at 8:00 p.m. Tickets are $25 and can be ordered beginning Wednesday, February 11 via online order form at www.spac.org

Recently featured as part of Good Morning America's Inauguration coverage, the Boys and Girls Choir of Harlem Alumni Ensemble performs a diverse repertoire that includes classical, gospel, spiritual, R&B, pop and soul. Scheduled to perform on Saturday, May 23, the performance is presented in collaboration with Saratoga ArtsFest, www.saratogaartsfest.org.

Twenty-three year old jazz vocalist Rachael Price performs on May 29. Price attracted attention at age 17 by becoming the youngest semi-finalist in both the Montreaux International Jazz Vocal Competition in Europe and the Thelonious Monk International Jazz Competition. Jazz critics and professionals have called her "gifted," "brilliant," and "incredible." Price recently released her third CD, The Good Hours.

Latin jazz pianist and bandleader Arturo O'Farrill & The Afro Latin Jazz Orchestra perform on May 30. O'Farrill and the Orchestra won the 2009 Grammy Award for 'Best Latin Jazz Album' for their CD Song for Chico. Often referred to as the world's leading Latin jazz big band, the Orchestra was founded by O'Farrill in 2001 for Jazz at Lincoln Center.

Tickets for Extended Season performances are $25 each. A special "3 for $60" package consisting of one ticket each to all three Extended Season performances is also available.
