ALBANY, NY (01/20/2016)(readMedia)--
New York State Bar Association President David P. Miranda today issued the following statement:
"We commend Governor Andrew Cuomo for nominating Michael J. Garcia as an associate justice of the state Court of Appeals.
"A law clerk to former Chief Judge Judith S. Kaye, Garcia has distinguished himself as U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York and, more recently, as a litigator for a New York firm. He served as co-chair of the New York State Bar Association's Task Force on Government Ethics.
"The State Bar Association found him 'well qualified' to serve on the state's highest court.
"We applaud Governor Cuomo for continuing to shape our state's highest court with superb jurists who are reflective of the diversity of our great state, without regard to party affiliation."
The 74,000-member New York State Bar Association is the largest voluntary state bar association in the nation. It was founded in 1876.
