SUNY Canton CREST Offers Lead Paint Renovation Training July 9

CANTON, NY (06/18/2018) SUNY Canton's Career Ready Education and Success Training (CREST) Center has partnered with Cornerstone Services to offer a Lead Based Paint Renovation, Repair and Painting (RRP) training.

The course will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday, July 9, at the college's Halford Hall. The training is offered free of cost through a collaboration with the New York State Homes and Community Renewal agency. Lunch will be provided.

Noted expert Michelle DeGarmo, President and CEO of Flatley-Read LLC, will be facilitating the training session. DeGarmo has nearly 20 years of experience training contractors in lead-based paint safety and regulation.

The Environmental Protection Agency's Lead RRP Rule requires that any contractor performing work on pre-1978 residences or child-occupied facilities, such as schools and daycares, must obtain the certification. The eight-hour training course is mandatory for contractors paid with Homes and Community Renewal funds and is also required for property managers, maintenance workers and landlords.

Many upstate cities now require proof of RRP Certification prior to issuing building permits for certain properties. The EPA is also encouraging rural building inspectors to enforce the rule, and some small municipalities have passed local laws encouraging compliance.

Space is limited for this free training, and preregistration is required. To register, visit http://www.canton.edu/crest/paint.htmlor call 315-386-7197.
