SUNY Canton Career Services Director Receives NYSCDA Award

CANTON, NY (06/03/2014)(readMedia)-- The New York State Career Development Association (NYSCDA) chose SUNY Canton's director of career services as the recipient of the 2014 Outstanding Career Practitioner Award.

The award was presented to David F. Norenberg at the NYSCDA conference May 30 in Buffalo.

The annual honor recognizes professionals, such as counselors, consultants and teachers, for outstanding work in the career services field.

Norenberg has served as career services director since 2005. His duties include advising students in career and educational paths, and conducting workshops and career fairs to simplify the job search process and assist students in achieving their career goals.

During his tenure, he developed a website that offers online resume assistance programs, links for career exploration and videos that highlight different occupations. He also works with active duty service members at Ft. Drum who are transitioning into the civilian workforce.

"David has transformed the SUNY Canton Career Services Office into a modern center of information and guidance for students," said SUNY Canton Assistant Director of Career Services Julie A. Parkman. "His extraordinary gifts as a presenter and a coach have guided hundreds of students into finding fulfilling careers."

"Being selected to receive this award is such an honor," Norenberg said. "I have worked hard to find new and creative ways to help and inspire the students at SUNY Canton," "In many ways it is because of them that I received this award."

Norenberg received a bachelor's degree from the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh in 1993 and earned his Master's of Science in Education in Counseling in 1996. He worked for United Way in Schenectady from 1997-2001 before relocating to the North Country to begin his work as interim assistant director of career services at St. Lawrence University. Norenberg also worked in St. Lawrence's University Communications office as the digital asset and on-line data manager from 2002 through October 2005 before joining SUNY Canton. In 2010 SUNY Canton's College Council awarded him with the prestigious Excellence in College Service Award.
