SUNY Canton Celebrates Promotions in the Canino School of Engineering Technology

CANTON, NY (12/22/2016)(readMedia)-- SUNY Canton President Zvi Szafran recently recognized promotions and new appointments in the Canino School of Engineering Technology.

Among those recognized was Michael J. Newtown, who was recently hired as the school's dean after serving the college in an interim capacity for the same position. Previously, he was an associate professor who helped create the college's Alternative and Renewable Energy program. He has conducted grant-funded research into pellet combustion in collaboration with the Cornell Cooperative Extension and Clarkson University. Newtown was recognized for his outstanding service to the college with the President's Meritorious Service Award in 2009.

Newtown is currently working on his Doctorate in Fluids Mechanics and Heat Transfer at Clarkson University. He previously earned his Master of Science in Engineering and Global Operation Management from Clarkson, his Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering Technology from Rochester Institute of Technology and his Associate Degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology from SUNY Canton.

Additionally, Daniel J. Gagliardi was promoted to professor, which is the highest position available for teaching professionals at the college. He was instrumental in creating the college's mathematics minor and developed several new courses within the program. He has published numerous research articles and routinely guest lectures at mathematics conferences. He received the college's Distinguished Faculty award in 2015.

Gagliardi earned his Doctorate in Mathematics from North Carolina State University, his Master of Science in Mathematics from New Mexico State University and his Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics from SUNY Purchase.

Promotions from the college's School of Business and Liberal Arts and the School of Science Health and Criminal Justice will be announced at a later date.
