CANTON, NY (01/23/2017)(readMedia)-- SUNY Canton has unveiled a new website to increase usability for both traditional and mobile browsing.

Director of Public Relations Travis G. Smith serves as the college's web designer. After almost a year's worth of work and testing, he released the entire site over the winter break in anticipation of the spring 2017 semester.

"Our newest updates allow us to combine our mobile and established websites into one responsive design," Smith said. "The site is faster and more efficient. We've coupled our upgrades with larger photos and a front-page listing of our newest videos, while continuing elements of overall look and feel of the SUNY Canton brand."

During 2016, the college's website exceeded 4 million hits. Mobile traffic accounted for more than a million, or about 27 percent, of those visits.

Smith developed web interfaces for mobile and PC based browsing to respond to the increase in mobile-based traffic in 2013. At that time, mobile traffic accounted for only 13 percent of the overall traffic.

The college's website has gone through several major redesigns in the past 15 years, each one made it more efficient, attractive, and user friendly. A single designer and web editor accomplished all of these updates in house, saving the college money on costly contracts and consultants.
