CANTON, NY (02/07/2017) (readMedia)-- SUNY Canton's Powersports Performance and Repair program has partnered with another internationally acclaimed company in the recreational vehicle industry.

The college recently entered a partnership with Yamaha Marine Group and is expanding its professional technical training to include the company's outboard boat motors.

"We are now set up with a dealership account so we have access to all of Yamaha's technical information, " said Christopher Mayville, the lead instructor in the college's Powersports program. "This will help our students greatly and allow them to become more familiar with the products they will be working with in their careers."

In a letter acknowledging the new partnership, a Yamaha marine training manager said, "Yamaha Motor Corporation is pleased to be able to offer this opportunity to expand our relationship with you and to work together towards building the future of the Marine Industry."

The SUNY Canton Powersports program has a long-standing partnership with Polaris Industries Inc. and runs a certified professional training center in the college's laboratories. The partnership allows students to have access to the latest snowmobiles, all-terrain vehicles, motorcycles and personal watercraft.

The program and its related partnerships recently caught the eye of a writer at PowerSports Business, an industry specific publication. David Wells wrote, "The State University of New York at Canton is meeting the increasing demand for skilled powersports service technicians with a specialized program that is firmly grounded in real-world experience."

The one-year certificate program attracts approximately 15 students annually and provides a rigorous education comprised of theory and hands-on experience. Virtually all of the graduates step directly into the powersports industry or into a related technical field. Some students have used the program to launch their SUNY Canton education, moving from Powersports to Automotive Technology and then on to a four-year business or engineering technology program.
