CANTON, NY (06/21/2017) Kelly C. Obermayer, class of 1979, has been chosen as SUNY Canton's 2017 Distinguished Alumna. She was presented with the award during the college's Alumni Weekend celebration.
Obermayer was selected for her volunteer leadership and efforts to strengthen the bond between alumni and SUNY Canton. She is the current chair of the Alumni Association Board and also served as an advisor and board member for Pi Nu Epsilon, the college's oldest sorority. During the sorority's centennial year, she led a successful fundraising campaign to name the Chaney Dining Center atrium after Pi Nu Epsilon.
"Kelly's love of SUNY Canton makes her one our most esteemed ambassadors," said Vice President for Advancement Anne M. Sibley. "Not only is she highly respected by the college and her fellow alumni, but she inspires recent graduates to follow in her footsteps and give back to their alma mater."
Obermayer's volunteer work includes serving on the boards of the South Glens Falls Chamber of Commerce and the Christine Nicole Perry Fund. Most recently, she was selected as the chair of the Adirondack Nonprofit Business Council. Professionally, she has held leadership positions with several nonprofits and is currently the development director for the Moreau Community Center.
She received an associate degree in Criminal Justice and was active in her sorority Pi Nu Epsilon during her time at SUNY Canton. Upon receiving her award, Obermayer thanked the nomination committee and reflected on her meaningful relationship with the college.
"In 1977, when I stepped on this campus as an 18-year-old student, I never imagined the impact this institution would have then, and now, on my life," she said. "Because of my connection to SUNY Canton, I have made friends who I could not picture my life without. I hope they realize how much their love and support truly means to me."
