SUNY Canton Student Assistant Earns Scholarship

SUNY Canton law enforcement leadership major Andre M. Lynch recently received a $1,500 scholarship from the New York State Financial Aid Administrators Association.

CANTON, NY (10/31/2012)(readMedia)-- SUNY Canton law enforcement leadership major Andre M. Lynch recently received a $1,500 scholarship from the New York State Financial Aid Administrators Association (NYSFAAA).

Lynch is a student assistant in the Registrar's office, and hails from Long Island. He now resides in Canton.

"Andre is one of the hardest-working students I know," said Kerrie L. Cooper, director of financial aid/ Student Service Center. "He proves that you can do anything if you are determined."

Each year, the association awards five scholarships to deserving undergraduate and graduate students at New York state public and private colleges. The announcement was made in October at the association's annual conference.

"I was very surprised when I learned that I won the award," Lynch said. "This scholarship will really help pay for my tuition in the Law Enforcement Academy at SUNY Canton next semester."

Lynch is a senior and aspires to pursue a career in law enforcement after he graduates next spring.

NYSFAAA is a volunteer association of financial aid professionals representing various higher education institutions in New York.

SUNY Canton offers a variety of career-driven bachelor's degrees in addition to its associate and certificate programs. In the past year, the College added two new bachelor's degrees and expanded its facilities with a new athletic center, nicknamed Roos House, and the Grasse River Suites Residence Hall.
