DELHI, NY (09/13/2016)(readMedia)-- SUNY Delhi is ranked 19th on the "Best Regional Colleges in the North" list, its highest position to date, in the 2016 edition of "Best Colleges" by U.S. News Media Group.

This is the 11th consecutive year SUNY Delhi has been ranked by U.S. News as a Best College. Delhi was ranked 28th in 2015. The exclusive rankings, which include more than 1,600 schools nationwide, are now available online at www.usnews.com/colleges.

Delhi is among the five most selective colleges in the north region, according to U.S. News. "We continue to see an increase in the number of academically talented students applying to Delhi, which is a direct result of our reputation as an educational leader with strong graduate outcomes," said President Michael R. Laliberte. "Our freshman class this fall has the highest grade point average in Delhi history."

"The U.S. News & World Report rankings are a testament to the excellent programs and services provided by faculty and staff across SUNY, and a reminder to our current and future students that SUNY is dedicated to providing them with a highly valuable degree that will serve them well long after graduation," said SUNY Chancellor Nancy L. Zimpher. "Congratulations to SUNY Delhi on this much-deserved recognition."

The college continues to earn high praise for academic excellence on many levels. It is consistently recognized as a national leader in online education by U.S. News for its innovative offerings including the Master of Science in Nursing Education and the RN to BSN program, both of which are helping meet critical workforce needs in New York State and the nation. SUNY Delhi is also recognized for offering the first online Criminal Justice Bachelor of Science degree within the State University of New York and an online Bachelor of Business Administration in Hospitality Management that streamlines credit for industry experience.

Delhi's volunteer tradition has also led to accolades. The college is among an elite group to earn the highly coveted Community Engagement Classification from the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement. Delhi has been selected for the President's National Honor Roll for Community Service every year since the award's inception in 2006. Thanks to its commitment to student veterans, the college has been named as a Military Friendly College for five consecutive years and has qualified as a Yellow Ribbon School.

SUNY Delhi offers specialized baccalaureate degrees in areas that build on the college's unique academic strengths at the associate degree level. They include Hospitality Management, Business and Professional Golf Management, Golf Course Management, Information Technology Management, Architectural Design and Building, Construction Management, Business and Technology Management, Criminal Justice, Mechatronics Technology and Recreation and Sports Facility Management.

The U.S. News rankings measure academic quality by examining seven broad indicator areas: peer assessment; retention and graduation of students; faculty resources; student selectivity; financial resources; and alumni giving. Indicators include both "input measures," which reflect the quality of students, faculty and other resources used in education, and "outcome measures," such as graduation and freshman retention rates, which signal how well the institution educates its student body.
