SUNY Delhi Earns Its Highest Ranking on U.S. News Best Colleges List

DELHI, NY (09/10/2013)(readMedia)-- SUNY Delhi is ranked No. 29 on the "Best Regional Colleges" list, its highest position to date, in the 2014 edition of "Best Colleges" by U.S. News Media Group. The exclusive rankings, which include more than 1,600 schools nationwide, are now available online at

This is the seventh consecutive year SUNY Delhi has been ranked by U.S. News. Delhi was ranked 32nd last year and 41st the previous year.

"SUNY Delhi's rise in the rankings reflects our commitment to preparing grads for career success," said SUNY Delhi President Candace S. Vancko. "We're attracting students with stronger academic backgrounds and our student success rates are outstanding."

Chancellor Nancy L. Zimpher offered her congratulations to SUNY Delhi and the many campuses representing SUNY on the list. "As we continue to work with Governor Cuomo to position SUNY and New York to lead in affordability, access, and quality, and President Obama puts these issues into focus nationally, we are proud to be recognized and ranked favorably by U.S. News & World Report."

The U.S. News rankings measure academic quality by examining seven broad indicator areas: peer assessment; retention and graduation of students; faculty resources; student selectivity; financial resources; and alumni giving. Indicators include both "input measures," which reflect the quality of students, faculty and other resources used in education, and "outcome measures," such as graduation and freshman retention rates, which signal how well the institution educates its student body.

SUNY Delhi exceeded the State University's student success rate for first-time, full time students according to a report by the State University's Office of Institutional Research and Analysis. The student success rate is defined by the percentage of first-time, full-time students who either graduate or transfer to continue their studies at Delhi. The State University Report Card also reflected nearly 500 internships and cooperative education opportunities for SUNY Delhi students.

In addition to its student success, the college's online RN to BSN program, the first of its type in New York State, continues to grow. The program began with 20 students in January 2008 and now enrolls over 600. This year, the RN to BSN program was ranked among the best affordable online nursing programs by Get Educated, a consumer's guide to online colleges.

SUNY Delhi has significantly expanded its baccalaureate offerings by delivering degrees at Schenectady County Community College, Tompkins Cortland Community College in Dryden, Onondaga Community College in Syracuse, Monroe Community College in Rochester, and Suffolk County Community College and Nassau Community College on Long Island.
