SUNY Delhi Named Military Friendly for Fourth Year

Veterans Offered Streamlined Admission

DELHI, NY (10/25/2014)(readMedia)-- SUNY Delhi has been recognized as a 2015 "Military Friendly School" by Victory Media, a veteran-owned media company that assists military personnel transitioning into civilian life. This is the fourth year Delhi has been awarded this honor.

"SUNY Delhi's commitment to providing quality service to veteran students is exceptional," said Matt LaLonde, SUNY Delhi Coordinator of Veterans Affairs. "Delhi offers a streamlined admission process to veterans, and special attention is given to their financial aid and educational entitlements."

According to LaLonde, the college supports the student veteran population by providing electronic resources that walk them though the steps they need to take to apply to college. They are also supported through partnerships with the local veterans' service agency and the Student Veterans of America (SVA). The college's student chapter of the SVA increases access for veterans while providing them with the necessary guidance, mentoring and array of student-centered services programs and community support that will assist with their transition and ensure their academic and personal success within the college community.

Veteran service experience can translate to academic credit at SUNY Delhi, giving student veterans a head start in achieving a degree. Veteran students can improve their career options with over 60 academic programs, including business administration, nursing, information technology and auto mechanics, all of which have been listed in GI Jobs 2014 list of top degrees for veterans.

SUNY Delhi will be named among approximately 1,600 schools listed in the annual Guide to Military Friendly Schools, distributed in print and digital format to hundreds of thousands of active and former military personnel. The list honors the top 20 percent of colleges, universities, and trade schools in the country that are doing the most to embrace America's military service members, veterans and spouses as students and ensure their success on campus.

The 2015 list of Military Friendly Schools was compiled through extensive research and a data-driven survey of more than 10,000 colleges, universities and trade schools nationwide approved for VA tuition funding. Each year schools taking the survey are held to a higher standard than the previous year via improved methodology, criteria and weightings developed with the assistance of an Academic Advisory Board consisting of educators from across the country.
