DELHI, NY (07/28/2012)(readMedia)-- SUNY Delhi Athletics has named Robb Munro as head coach for men's and women's cross country and track and field.
Munro comes from a teaching position at Bainbridge-Guilford Schools where he has coached track and field for 11 years and cross country for five years. Munro has also coached cross country athletes at Harpursville Central School and track and field athletes at Greene Central School and Sidney High School.
SUNY Delhi Athletics Director Bob Backus said, "Munro comes to Delhi after a very lengthy national search, and we are very excited to name him as our head coach. His accomplishments and expertise will bring continued success to our program."
Under Munro's guidance, athletes have garnered 57 New York State Public High School Athletic Association (NYSPHSAA) and New York State Federation medals, seven NYSPHSAA wins, and two New York State Federation Championships. His athletes have established nine league records, eight Section IV records, and one state record and have earned five All-American honors. Munro keeps academics in focus with his athletes, securing the highest team average in Section IV multiple times.
Prior to arriving at Bainbridge-Guilford, Munro earned 11 varsity letters competing for Virginia Tech 1996-1997 and for the University of Delaware 1997-2001. He continues to hold the University of Delaware's record for the 4x1500 meter relay as a relay team member. Munro is a USA Track and Field Level II Certified Coach for endurance events.
Munro graduated from Sidney High School in 1996 where he was a state champion and All-American in the steeplechase. He also competed on the soccer and basketball teams while at Sidney.
Munro holds a bachelor's degree in History Education from the University of Delaware and a master's degree in Education from the University of New England.
Munro takes over for Justin Wood, a SUNY Delhi '04 graduate who has overseen the college's cross country and track and field programs for the past four seasons. Wood recently accepted the head coaching position at Stevens Institute of Technology in Hoboken, N.J.
The SUNY Delhi Broncos have won 19 National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division III Championships in men's and women's cross country and track and field dating back to 1991. SUNY Delhi will host the 2012 NJCAA Division III Cross Country Championships November 10 at The College Golf Course at Delhi.
