DELHI, NY (06/28/2012)(readMedia)-- SUNY Delhi Provost John Nader served as a key speaker at the international conference, "Challenges and Opportunities of Sustainable Development in Eurasian Countries," in the cities of Tbilisi and Batumi in the country of Georgia this month.
The conference explored various aspects of the economic development process in the Eurasian region: economic policies in theory and practice; social and geopolitical issues; business development; educational issues; international trade; globalization; and cultural identity.
Provost Nader was joined by historian Dr. Giuli Alasania, mother of Mikheil Saakashvili, President of Georgia, as a presenter at the conference. Presenters also came from Azerbaijan, Turkey, Iraq, Poland, and the Czech Republic and included the rectors of International Black Sea University and Batumi State University.
The Georgian Minister of Regional Development and Infrastructure and Georgia's First Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development also attended.
Provost Nader's appearance at the conference is the result of an ongoing partnership between SUNY Delhi and Georgia. The two have formed an educational partnership to strengthen Tbilisi State University (TSU) under a project supported by the United Nations Development Programme. Through a Memorandum of Agreement, SUNY Delhi is collaborating with the Georgian university to provide an action plan that will help TSU become a more modern and democratic institution. The plan will also focus on programs that can help Georgia develop the skilled workforce it needs to achieve sustainable economic growth. Tbilisi State is the largest university in Georgia with a total enrollment of 35,000 students.
