DELHI, NY (11/24/2015)(readMedia)-- SUNY Delhi turf majors won the New York State Turfgrass Association Turf Bowl Competition November 18 in Rochester, NY.

NYSTA's Turf Bowl competition is designed to test the knowledge of college students in turfgrass management programs. During the annual competition, students identify turf grasses, weeds, insects and diseases using live specimens. Student teams also work together on management-related questions and an essay question.

This was the first year SUNY Delhi has captured both the two- and four-year trophies. The four-year team included Sullivan Murphy, Tyler LePore, Justin Hayward, and Jacob Lamarche. The two-year team included James Carlton, Tyler Warren, Ryan Jeskie and Andre Kepler.

The New York State Turfgrass Association is made up of a group of individuals in the green industry who have joined together to share technology, promote environmental stewardship, support education, advance research and disseminate research findings.

SUNY Delhi's Golf and Sports Turf Management program offers a well-integrated curriculum that incorporates liberal arts, general business, turf management, and hospitality management theory and application. Students can pursue an associate degree and move on to complete a Bachelor of Business Administration (B.B.A.), which is the only program in the northeast that is designed to develop skills in the science of turfgrass management as well as proficiency in business and communications. Students gain extensive experience in the classroom, laboratory, and working on the college's 18-hole golf course and athletic fields. Additionally, students gain credit through internships at select national and international facilities.
