SUNY Delhi's 100th Gala to Feature World Renowned Wine Educator Kevin Zraly
DELHI, NY (04/11/2013)(readMedia)-- World renowned wine educator Kevin Zraly '70 will headline SUNY Delhi's Centennial Gala on May 4 in the Farrell Student and Community Center on the college campus.
"We're honored that Kevin has cleared his schedule to join us for the gala," said President Candace S. Vancko.
The May 4 event begins at 6 p.m. with a champagne reception. Dinner follows at 7 p.m. with a menu of saffron cavatelli with fruits de mer, roasted tomato-preserved lemon broth as an appetizer, a modern caprese salad, and an entrée of roasted rib eye and braised short rib with herbed potato gratin, spring vegetables and sherry jus. Dessert will feature a hazelnut gateau with caramel, green apple sorbet and dried cherry sauce. Wine pairings, selected by Zraly, will be featured with each course.
The gala dinner will benefit the Kevin Zraly Scholarship Endowment. Founded in 1999, this endowment has grown to become one of the largest sources of annual scholarships for hospitality students at SUNY Delhi. "I am thrilled to be part of Delhi's 100th birthday celebration," said Zraly. "I cannot think of a better way to celebrate than by raising funds to help students succeed."
Zraly has gone on to become one of the world's leading wine authorities. He authored Windows on the World Complete Wine Course, which has sold over three million copies, as well as Ultimate Wine Companion, Kevin Zraly's American Wine Guide, Kevin Zraly's Wine Journal, and A Glass Half Full: A Cellar Master's Journey Through Life and Wine. Zraly has been honored with the James Beard Award for Wine and Spirits Professional of the Year, Santé's Wine Professional of the Year Award, the European Wine Council Lifetime Achievement Award and the James Beard Lifetime Achievement Award. He returns to Delhi to collaborate with hospitality faculty and students to create an event that is sure to top last year's opening gala.
